THE SHORT ANSWER
Start with the language in which the recipient is most comfortable reading. Then check the language variant, translation and content: a complete Bible is different from a New Testament. For other languages and special requests, please contact City Bibles.
First ask about the reader's language
Someone's country of residence or origin does not automatically determine which language someone likes to read. Ask personally: in which language do you read books, which script do you use and do you already know a Bible translation? A person can speak several languages but be comfortable reading in only one language.
For example, write English, Arabic, Ukrainian or Farsi if the reader indicates so. Also check the language variant. A cover with a well-known language name does not in itself guarantee that the text fits.
Choose the right content and format
Ask whether the reader wants the complete Bible or would prefer to start with the New Testament. A single Gospel contains a smaller part of the Bible. When giving a gift, explain clearly what the book includes.
Alongside language, consider print size, book size and reading experience. A Dutch children’s Bible is not necessarily the right choice for an adult learning Dutch. Reading in their own language may be a better starting point. Also read our advice for a Bible gift.
Opportunities at City Bibles
City Bibles focuses on Bible distribution in different languages and also supports customized projects. You can inquire about the desired language, translation and version. A language in an overview does not mean that every edition is immediately available.
Please indicate in your question who you are looking for, which language variant is desired and whether it concerns one copy or several. Please confirm availability, any minimum quantities and total costs.
A practical check before you choose
- Did the recipient choose this language and script?
- Is the translation name known and is there a reading example?
- Is it the complete Bible, the New Testament or a selection?
- Are font size and format comfortable for the reader?
- Are delivery and total costs clear?
