FOR CHILDREN

Which children's Bible suits which age?

When choosing a children's Bible, look at age, language and the way you read together. Young children often benefit more from short stories and illustrations. Older children may need a complete Bible with explanation.

4 to 8 years: read and talk together

The Read Together Bible Junior contains selected Bible stories, questions and activities. The publisher calls the target groups 4–6 and 6–8 years. Reading together is different from being able to read independently; adjust the pace to the child.

8 to 12 years: discover more for yourself

The Reading Together Bible (2025) combines the complete Bible in Ordinary Language with routes and illustrations. You can discuss questions together and choose parts that reflect what is on the child's mind.

Pay attention to the content, not just the cover

A children's Bible is often a selection or retelling. That is not the same as a complete Bible translation. Check the publisher's age indication, the narrative tone and whether the stories fit in with how you talk about faith at home. For toddlers you can compare My Toddler Bible and Bible Stories for Toddlers. Check the age and method of reading for each issue.
