Which Bible is suitable for beginners?

Are you mainly looking for clear language? Start with the Bible in Plain Language. If you want contemporary Dutch with more attention to different writing styles, check out the NBV21. First read an example and choose what you like.

Start with your reading experience

You don't need to have any prior knowledge to choose a Bible. Ask yourself whether you like reading longer texts and whether you need explanations. An accessible translation and a calm page can make a first introduction easier.

A translation is different from a performance

NBV21, BGT and HSV are translations. Hardcover, paperback, pocket size and large print describe a performance. A study Bible adds explanation. That explanation is from the makers and must be distinguished from the Bible text.

Try a small piece

Read the same story in two translations. Do you understand the words? Do you follow the sentences? You can first read online via debijbel.nl. If you are going to read along in a church or group, the translation used there can be taken into account.
