THE SHORT ANSWER
First ask which translation and possible psalm rhyme the school uses. Then choose a version that your child can read, open and take with you. A school Bible is not automatically a children's Bible.
Start with the school list
Please write down the translation and any additional wishes verbatim. If there is an ISBN, compare it with the product page. A brown, blue or black cover does not say enough about the content. If in doubt, ask whether another version is allowed before ordering; especially additional song material may differ.
Let your child use the book
Can your child turn the pages and follow a text? Try to look up a referral together. Look at the weight in the school bag and the way the book stays open. A larger book is not necessarily a large print edition. Readability must be judged by the interior.
Full text or retold stories
The HSV School Bible contains the complete translation, with additional material. The Bible for you retells stories and serves a different purpose. Both can be useful together: one for following the lesson, the other for quiet reading together. Don't just choose based on the age stated in a webshop filter.
Issues to view
Choose based on your own reading purpose and, if in doubt, first look at the interior. These editions match the options above:
