THE SHORT ANSWER
A zipper is especially useful if you often take the Bible with you in a bag. It keeps the book closed and can protect loose pages from bending, but does not make the Bible watertight.
Think about your usage
For a Bible that is usually left on the table, a zipper is not necessary. If you often travel with other items in the same bag, a closed cover can be nice. Make sure there is enough space around the book. A sturdy strap is also not intended to be stuck under heavy objects.
Let op het openen
Open the zipper completely before opening the Bible. Check whether the edge fits comfortably when you read or write. Do not put a thick stack of cards between the pages: this will create tension on the book and closure. A zipper is no reason to make the book fuller than the binding is designed for.
Compare the right editions
Our selection includes a compact HSV with black leather and a red Willibrord edition with zipper. The translation remains the most important choice. Don't just buy the version with the most beautiful closure if the reader is used to a different text. Then check the size, letters and any thumb grips.
