THE SHORT ANSWER
Choose a wedding Bible together with the couple: which translation do both enjoy and is it about reading together, church use or a memory? A special cover does not automatically make a Bible suitable. Joint use is the most important starting point.
Start with two readers, not one gift giver
Partners may be used to different translations. Ask both what feels familiar and what helps when reading together. A shared Bible does not have to replace personal editions. It could actually be an extra copy that is in a permanent place at home.
Have each person choose a short passage to compare. Then discuss language, explanation and reading comfort separately. In this way, the couple prevents the preference of the person who answers fastest from automatically becoming the joint choice.
Memory book or daily reading book?
For a book that is often on the table, easy-to-read pages and easy opening are important. Size and weight are more important when it comes to taking it with you. A luxurious version can be nice, but does not help if the letters are too small for either of them.
For example, check out the NBV21 Huwelijksbijbel if the couple uses that translation. Check whether there is room for an assignment or family dates if desired. That space varies per edition. The ISBN Agency emphasizes that different versions can be identified separately; therefore order the intended version and not just the correct translation name.
Give space to make the gift your own
Before engraving, printing or registering, ask for confirmation of names, date and version. A separate card keeps the choice flexible. A personal reading suggestion can be included, but do not make the gift a mandatory joint program.
Our choice: let the couple determine the translation and usage first, then add an appropriate finish. View the translation comparator and available editions. If you are going to give on behalf of a congregation, check whether the couple is not already receiving a wedding Bible.
Frequently asked questions
Do partners have to read the same translation from now on?
No. A joint edition can coexist with personal Bibles.
Should a marriage Bible have a special wedding page?
No. That is a possible wish, not a necessary characteristic. Check the format if the couple considers it important.
