Implementation and use

Pocket Bible or large format: what is fun to read on the go?

THE SHORT ANSWER

A pocket Bible is useful if you have little space, but its small size can be at the expense of reading comfort. Therefore, please check the actual dimensions and a sample page. Choose the smallest book that you can still read in a relaxed manner, not automatically the smallest available copy.

Handy is a usage question

What fits in a spacious shoulder bag does not necessarily fit in a jacket pocket. Words like compact and handy are no substitute for centimeters. Also look at how you carry the book: a smaller but thick book may feel different than a larger paperback.

Think about where you usually read. You can place a large book at the table. This is sometimes less easy in a train or waiting room. The right execution solves a practical problem without making the text unnecessarily difficult.

Make the size visible before ordering

Draw length and width on a sheet of paper and place it in the bag you are using. View an insight page at the intended scale; a screen that automatically zooms in can show small letters misleadingly large. Also check line spacing and contrast.

If in doubt, ask at a bookstore if you can hold a comparable version. You experience weight, opening and readability together. Don't just rely on a product photo that doesn't have other items to compare size to.

Two applications may receive two solutions

A compact edition to take with you can coexist with a more spacious reading Bible at home. However, you do not have to buy two books immediately. First try to see whether your current copy is sufficient with a different bag or permanent reading spot.

Our choice: prioritize reading comfort if you want to read longer pieces. The NBV21 Paperback is an option worth looking at; check whether the version suits your use. If you are looking for a book for your regular reading spot at home, check out the NBV21 Huisbijbel. For emphatically larger text, read our large print advice. If you want to compare on finish, continue with hardcover, paperback and flexible cover.

Frequently asked questions

Does a large Bible always have large letters?

No. The space can also be used for notes or illustrations. Check the font size separately.

Is compact a fixed size?

Assume the specified dimensions of the precise edition; the word alone is insufficient.
