What does “Bible with Psalms” mean in a publication?

Two different types of text

The Bible book of Psalms is part of the continuous Bible text. A psalm rhyme presents psalms in a form that can be sung. As a result, the song text has a different layout and different formulations than the relevant chapter in the Bible.

In an HSV edition, Jongbloed, for example, mentions Psalms 1773, some hymns and forms. These are characteristics of that specific version. You cannot deduce from this that every HSV has the same attachments.

Adjust the attachment to the use

If you want to take the Bible to a service, ask which collection and rhyme are used there. Just the word “psalms” on the cover is not enough. A different rhyme may have different verses or wording, making it difficult to sing along together.

Also check whether you need notation and how the song lyrics are printed. Can you find them easily? Does a second reading ribbon help keep the Bible reading and the song open at the same time? These are practical questions that may be more important than the appearance of the cover.

When can you do without the attachment?

If you mainly read at home and use a separate song collection, you do not automatically have to opt for a thicker combination edition. A text Bible can then be more convenient. If you give a Bible as a gift, ask the recipient which hymn texts are really needed.
